Since the victory of the Bolivarian project in the 1998 elections, Venezuela has been working to transform the state apparatus, develop grassroots popular power and increase the population’s engagement in democracy. This initiative ensured billions of dollars, which prior to 1998 were sent overseas and to the Venezuelan capitalist class, were now available for education, health, land reform and community programs. However, resistance against imperialist powers has exposed Venezuela to frequent attacks. The Yankees whipped Venezuela with economic sabotage, media sabotage, social sabotage, terrorism, bombs, violence, blood and death, coup d’etat, manipulation of institutions, sanctions, international pressure and the kidnapping of their leadership.
