On 29 January, Trump signed an executive order labelling Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat.” This allowed for the brutal escalation of the US blockade against Cuba, which has been in place now for over six decades, inflicting untold misery and suffering on the heroic Cuban people.
The most recent measure has almost completely cut off Cuba from oil supplies, causing extreme energy shortages that have begun to cripple food and medicine distribution, transportation, and the hospital system on the island.
Cuban families are facing more and more frequent blackouts and being forced to resort to burning wood to prepare meals, as conditions worsen across the country. Trump’s genocidal blockade is increasingly being described as “Gaza without bombs.”
However, the Cubans are fighting back against imperialist assault by intensifying their transition to renewable energy sources, particularly solar panels shipped from China. But they need our help in this fight to counter Trump’s blockade and install enough solar capacity to avert a humanitarian catastrophe.
