We publish below the greetings received and warmly accepted by Red Spark’s Second National Conference from the Mazdoor Kissan Party. Red Spark thanks the MKP for their support and solidarity in our shared struggles against imperialism and for a socialist future.

On July 7–8, 2026, Turkey is hosting the annual NATO summit, surrounding its capital with tight security to showcase its role as a pivotal military heavyweight. Halfway across the world, Australia is aggressively cementing its place within the AUKUS security pact, planning to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on American-designed, nuclear-powered submarines. 

Separated by vast geographic and cultural distances, both countries are following similar paths. Both have embraced an intensifying brand of transactional militarism, tying their fates to Western imperialist designs. And in their haste to build their militaries, both disregard their own populations, who are enduring severe economic stress and rising vulnerability. 

But these governments are operating under a delusion. They think that their integration with AUKUS or NATO will provide for long-term security. They will not. In reality, both nations are entangling themselves in conflicts that are not their own. For Turkey, backing NATO’s posturing means getting caught between the West and Russia. For Australia, AUKUS means it gets caught between the US and China. Neither the everyday worker in Istanbul nor Sydney benefits from these global power struggles; they only invite the wrath of the great powers of their own neighbourhoods. 

This militaristic focus is particularly self-harming when evaluated against basic economic logic. In both cases, these nations are actively antagonising the very neighbours or partners essential to their survival. 

For Australia, China is its most vital, historic trading partner—the foundational engine of its modern prosperity, and yet the leadership is being led by the US to antagonise it. Australia is being put in harm’s way, and when push comes to shove, its so-called friends will not be there to ensure its safety; they will be too busy trying to ensure their own. 

Turkey’s leadership faces the same misunderstandings with respect to Europe; despite maintaining NATO’s southern flank against Russia and controlling vital waterways, it is kept at arm’s length by Europe, who has no intention of granting it entry into the EU even decades after its application. 

In other words, the prime imperialist states are eager to use these countries as their pawns and buffer zones but have no intention of treating them as equal partners.

And unfortunately, there is a human cost to chasing these delusions. Australia faces its worst economic growth slump in decades, with inflation expected to peak around 4.25 percent, threatening working families. Poverty and severe housing crises are rising, but rather than tackle those, the government is committed to the $887 billion, decade-long defence requirements of AUKUS. Meanwhile, the domestic situation in Turkey is even more acute. Even as it increases its entanglements in regional conflicts and increases defence manufacturing, its citizens are suffering from the effects of a 30% percent rate. That is disastrous for the cost-of-living of ordinary people. Their local union data indicate that the basic poverty threshold for a family of four continues to climb drastically month over month, leaving millions unable to afford essential food and housing. 

Perhaps such is to be expected from the governments of capitalist states, who are too drunk on the prospects of military ventures abroad to care about the day-to-day problems of their own citizens. And perhaps the truest service people of conscience can provide to their societies is to debunk the lies of the governments in service of these imperial interests. 

Prosperity and security cannot be imported via foreign armaments or guaranteed by subservience to external imperial interests. It will come from an inward focus on industry, public welfare, housing, healthcare, and equitable development. It will require a climb down from the system of the rich, who think nothing of sacrificing the futures of their populations to the schemes of foreign powers. It will require Peace and Socialism.
