If the Bolivarian Revolution seeks to build 21st Century Socialism then the 2003 documentary “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” is “Ten Days That Shook The World” for the 21st century.
By luck an Irish film crew, making a documentary about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, was in the Miraflores presidential palace during the tumultuous 2002 coup against him and its dramatic aftermath. The result is this documentary which plays more like a Hollywood movie, and undoubtedly would be one were it not for its depiction of the defeat of the Venezuelan oligarchs and their US backers.
In the wake of the US bombing of Caracas and kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores this documentary is more timely as ever. In response to these kidnappings the people of Caracas began to retrace their steps from 2002, marching to Miraflores in support of their revolutionary Bolivarian government.
This film is not only a window into the history of the Bolivarian Revolution, but is a continuing testament to the perfidy of US imperialism and its Venezuelan compradors, and indictment of the lies they continue to pedal.
Join us in revisiting this historic victory of the Bolivarian Revolution as we work to organise solidarity here in Australia with the Revolution’s present protagonists.
