We, political organizations, social movements, political parties, youth, women, intellectuals, artists, and grassroots leaders in Australia, express our firm rejection of the United States military deployment in the Caribbean under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
This deployment constitutes:
- A violation of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, a pillar of denuclearization and regional security.
- A violation of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted in 2014.
- A clear violation of the fundamental principles of International Law.
Reports from the United Nations (UN) have confirmed that neither Venezuela nor the Caribbean are drug transit areas, which undermines the Trump administration’s arguments for attempting to legitimize armed intervention and militarize the region, threatening peace and stability.
On September 5, 2025, most member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) expressed in a declaration their condemnation of the extra regional military deployment in the Caribbean by the United States, noting that it represents a direct threat to the peace, stability, and sovereignty of our peoples.
In this regard:
- We urge the Australian government and friendly governments in the Pacific to speak out clearly and firmly against this escalation of military aggression driven by the administration of President Donald Trump.
- We call on the international community to halt this dangerous offensive, which could open a new cycle of violence in the region and further undermine the rules-based world order.
- We reaffirm our full solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela, whose right to sovereignty and self-determination is inalienable.
Peace in Venezuela is peace for Latin America and the Caribbean and the guarantee of stability in the Global South. The sovereignty of our peoples is not negotiable. Every signature that supports and every adhesion to this communiqué is an act of dignity in the face of interference and a collective commitment to life, social justice, and freedom.
